February 6 Update
MAY 2021 EXAM SESSION UPDATE:

Skyline High School WILL NOT be holding in-person (or remote) IB exams in May of 2021.  This decision was made in the interest of safety as well as in the interest of providing our students the surest beneficial route to positive assessment outcomes.  Instead of in-person exams, IBO is allowing schools the option to use a slightly modified version of the assessment model from May 2020.  In this model, students will still submit Internal Assessment (and if their subject requires it, External Assessment) work.  IBO will evaluate this work, along with Predicted Grades for each student as submitted by their teachers.  IBO uses this data along with other metrics they have to figure students' grades accurately.  Last year, this methodology produced slightly better than average results the school normally sees from from final IB marks.  We expect a similar outcome this year.

Since IBO will still be figuring final marks and colleges will still be awarding college credit there will be no refund of IB Exam fees.

Students should look for guidance from their teachers as to what work will be submitted to IBO as well any deadlines for the submission of that work.  These deadlines have already been provided to the IB teachers and they are already in the process of supporting students to complete this required work.

Thank you all for your patience as we awaited notification from IBO about this matter.

IB Information Nights and Registration Process for the 2021-2022 School Year

Middle School Family Information:
We have put together an informational video presentation for you that outlines the history and philosophy of IB education as well as a guide to understanding how IB operates at Skyline High School. Please use this video as well as the other information at the links below to guide you in your planning while in Middle School.  Please work with your Middle School Counselor to answer any questions you might have about the best planning leading up to enrollment in Skyline High School.

Once your student is enrolled at Skyline High School our Counseling Staff and IB Coordinators will be at your disposal to answer questions about grades 10-12 planning leading up to possible involvement in our IB programs.

Skyline Family Information:

We have put together two informational videos for our 9th and 10 grade families (links below) to provide you information leading up to the Course Registration Process for the 2021-2022 school year.

In addition there will be live follow-up Q & A sessions for 9th and 10th grade families.  We will hold four (4) live Zoom sessions led by our IB Coordinators for parents and students to access, as well as some student-led presentations/Q &A intended for 9th and 10th grade students only.

We will also
host a student-led presentation about IB curriculum and programs offered by Skyline. Our presenters are two current IB Diploma candidates as well as two IBCP students. This presentation is intended for 9th and 10th graders who are interested in learning about the IB programs and prospectively enrolling in the programs. Along with presenting information about the curriculum, our student presenters will be giving a student perspective and sharing personal experiences about the IB curriculum.

Due to the limitations on space, time and accessibility we ask that families invest time in viewing the presentations and researching the answers to questions via the many resources available under the "Program Information" tab above so that the limited time available in the Q & A sessions can be spent clarifying more complicated aspects of the IB programs rather than covering basic information.

January 5 Update
Happy New Year to all our IB families!  We hope that everyone had a safe and restful holiday break.

IB Exam Registration is now CLOSED for the year.  No further IB Exam Registrations will be accepted for the May 2021 exam session.  Exam registrations that came in over Break are currently being processed.  Also, all remaining unpaid exam fees, late registration fees and refunds are now being processed and/or converted to fines to be placed on student accounts.  Those should appear in the coming days.  Please pay those fines as quickly as you are able.

IB Information Nights held each January will be virtual this year.  Informational videos will be uploaded in the next couple of weeks.  There will three (3) videos: general IB program information for Middle School Families looking to learn more about what IB is and how it works; an IB Diploma and IB Course video for students in grades 9-10 wishing to start their planning to take the IB Diploma or just IB Courses; and, an IB Career and IB Course video for students in grades 9-10 wishing to start planning to undertake either the IB Career Certificate or just IB Courses.  There will be live Q&A sessions for follow-up questions to the video presentations toward the end of the month.  There will be separate Q&A sessions with current IB students, the IB Career Coordinator and the IB Diploma Coordinator.  It is essential that interested parties do their research BEFORE attending these Q&A sessions so that time can be devoted to clarifying finer points about the program rather than covering basic information readily found on the school's IB website and in the informational videos.  In particular, it would be wise to refer to the following links in addition to watching the videos in your target interest area:

December 11 Update
Late IB Exam Registration for May 2021 will be open until January 5.  Be sure to get your exam registration in before this date if you have not already.

Payments for May 2021 exams can still be made through the SHS payment portal through January 5, 2021 (instructions available here
)  After January 5, all remaining unpaid fees will be converted to fines and placed on student accounts for payment.

Orientation sessions for interested incoming families will be available in January.  Due to the current school closure, video presentations will be made available for asynchronous viewing by families - both for middle school families as an orientation to IB and to prospective 9th and 10th graders already attending SHS, planning to register for IB courses in the near future.  Following a period of viewing time, live Q & A sessions will be held for the community hosted both by current students in the programs and by the IB Coordinators of the programs.  Please watch for the January update when we announce these dates and post those videos.

November 13 Update
Late IB Exam Registration for May 2021 will open on November 15.  If you missed the first round of Exam Registration for May 2021, this will be your last chance to signup.  Please follow the instructions that can be found here.  Information for payment can also be found on the same page.

October 31 Update
On-time IB Exam Registration for May 2021 is now CLOSED.  If you missed this deadline there will be an opportunity to sign-up (with IBO Late Fee Penalties) from November 15-January 5.

To sign up in the Late Registration please contact the appropriate IB Coordinator.  Information on Late Registration can be found HERE.

September 24 Update
IB Exam Registration for May 2021 opens from October 1 - October 30

If you are currently taking an IB class at SHS you may be eligible to take an IB exam this year.  Please speak with your teacher about details regarding the specific requirements for IB Assessment in each of your IB subjects.  Most subjects require students to take part in Internal Assessment during the year and a Final Exam in May.  Some subjects require more or less work submitted to IBO.

If you are seeking college credit from your IB Course this is the only way you can become eligible.

For all required Forms, Registration FAQ's, and Registration guidance please go here.

September 12 Update
Students and staff are settling in to new routines and working out the hiccups of online learning but we are getting a lot of positive feedback to date.

This coming Thursday night is Parent "Open House" - please check SHS eNews for details on the program for the evening.

Coming up in October we will run IB Exam Registration for the May 2021 session.  At this time IBO is planning on holding exams in May.  Conditions on the ground may change this but if you are enrolled in an IB class in grades 11-12 and you potentially want college credit for your IB Courses you will need to register for IB Exams now.  These exams are fee-based and the all the registration information will appear in an update on this page at the end of September.  IB Exam registration will be open for the month of October ONLY - so please talk with your teacher about whether you should be signing up for exams for their class this year.  As with last year, regardless of whether May exams are held, if IBO takes in student work, scores that work and issues college credit, there will be no refunds of exam fees.  More on this in the next update - stay tuned.

September 1 Update
Hello Spartans!  Well, school has officially started! We hope everyone had a positive experience today.

Here is what is happening in the IB Office this week:

1) we are hard at work enrolling students and fixing course schedules.
2) we are working with teachers to make sure they have the resources they need.
3) CLASS OF 2022 Diploma students- we are starting to create the email contact groups for Diploma students and enroll them in ManageBac.
                           a) if you have a full Diploma Junior: (1) please have them check their email for a "test" email to make sure they are receiving
communications from the IB Coordinator. (2) have them be on the lookout for a couple more official emails from the IB
                               Coordinator in the coming days.
4) CLASS OF 2021 Diploma students- please get your CAS and Extended Essay details current in ManageBac.
5) CLASS OF 2020 ALL IB STUDENTS - we are still waiting for IBO to send paper transcripts from the May 2020 session to mail to last year's testing group.  According to IBO we will be receiving these closer to the end of September this year due to re-score processes by IBO.  Please look for your May 2020 results certificate in early October.

We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Labor Day Weekend!  Look for more updates soon.

August 2020 Update
This is the first of many updates for the year.   Please use this website for all general announcements regarding IB 'events' and news regarding enrollment, exam registration, assessment updates, and SHS IB-specific news.

Course Selection for 2020-2021
For any course-related requests for the coming school year please use the course request/change process that will be available in late August on the SHS webpage.  Counselors will be using this online request tool to make course changes.  If they need more information they will reach out to students and/or families on an as-need basis.  Please DO NOT email them directly with requests as this will only slow the process of getting all students in classes prior to the start of school.

IB Office Hours
The school campus is closed to the general public and all IB Office business will be conducted remotely.  IB Coordinators will not be responding to any communications to the IB Office phone.  Please email your questions or concerns and the IB Coordinators will respond to your inquiry in the most efficient manner possible.

IB Course, Career and Diploma Courses and Assessments
Once ISD publishes the final guidelines for remote instruction more information will become available about what daily instruction will look like.  As of now, students should expect to be meeting online for all their classes each week for both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.  Daily attendance will be taken and school will function much as it would during a normal school year with adjustments made for our current remote learning model.  Expect homework and self-study as well as teacher-guided instruction as school begins.

The school is still awaiting more clarity from IBO regarding the structure and timing of IB assessments.  When this guidance is published it will become available here with explanation as to what that will look like for SHS IB students.
